the end is in sight

three more days. three more days and we will be ready for the appraisal, the pictures, the sign. well, we will pretend we are ready regardless of what is done and what is not. i have been less consistent in my posting due to every free moment going towards the house. painting doors, organizing closets, cleaning cobwebs, installing faceplates, and so on and so on. the to do list is finally down to one page and i feel so much weight lifting from my shoulders. over six months ago we made the decision to sell our beloved first home. it takes a lot of work to get a house ready for sale. especially when you decide to gut and redo your whole kitchen and have two young children to take care of. i am looking forward to the day we close and pray that it is not too many months down the road. please put out the word if you hear anyone talking about wanting a charming cape cod in a great neighborhood with the appeal of an old home yet the convenience of modern updates (do i sound like an ad - i should). please keep our family in your prayers during this time.

opinions please

here are two possible pictures for our for sale ad. which one do you, faithful blog reader, prefer?

making snowflakes

well, our family is on the mend and we are starting to feel cabin fever replace the flu. there are only so many ways to occupy young children and thankfully they are usually entertained with these limited activities. the problem is that the adults can be bored out of their mind by the end of the second day. yeah for me that luca is now old enough to enjoy the wonderful world of arts and crafts (my personal childhood major). luca has shown great skill and creativity with drawing. he has an eye for design - he would be a master at seeing shapes in the clouds - he already does it with scribbling, food, ironwork, abstract art, etc.

so this afternoon we made paper snowflakes. this was luca's first foray in the use of scissors. i gave him a piece of paper and let him get accustomed to using them. i folded my own paper, cut out my design, and revealed my snowflake. luca was thrilled at the result. he then began to purposefully cut out his "practice paper" in a similar shape. the bottom picture was his result! i was nothing short of amazed.

gia enjoyed collecting all the scraps of paper and scrunching them in her little chubby fists.

sick sick sick

our house in under quarantine. visit at your own risk. jesse has been granted special privileges to leave for work, but only after four days of isolation. what ails our family? the flu, folks, the flu. with all of the aches, chills, fevers, congestion, mucus, (do i sound like a nyquil commercial?), and congestion. please pray for our health and sanity. being sick is bad, being sick while taking care of children is worse, and being sick while taking care of sick children is the worst. see you all on the flip side.

can't sleep

i am exhausted yet unable to sleep. so i am playing around with my template and it may take me awhile to fix things . . . ughh. pray for some rest. my eyeballs hurt.

new year's eve dance party

here are more videos from the trip. i am still sorting through photos and will just wait on those until i am done, but wanted to share what i could.

luca and jesse's dad are showing off their fancy footwork and booty shakin' on new year's eve. luca wouldn't dance until he put on his black shoes, "like mwa mwa's." this was a pre-party warm-up for the kitchen floor, which magically transforms into a dance floor during parties like these. the adults were to be found later in the evening - if luca only knew what he missed. i sadly was sick most of the night and could show off my own moves, such a bummer. enjoy!

held hostage

instead of doing laundry, sweeping the floors, or making the beds, i am being held hostage by my son. when gia went down for her morning nap, i turned on a show for luca and planned on getting some housework done. instead, luca grabbed my leg and asked, "you snuggle on couch with me?" how could i say no? for anyone i haven't spoken with recently, i have been completely enamored with luca lately. he has been so sweet and funny. he asks questions with a singsong voice, invents silly words and phrases, comes up with new games all by himself, makes stunning and amazing observations about the world around him and is all-around very cuddly.

i was sitting here sorting through our vacation photos, with luca snuggling at my side, when i felt a tight squeeze on my arm. i looked down into my firstborn's innocent face and he whispered, "my love you, mama." my heart nearly burst with emotion.

(and in order to not show favorites, he followed it up with, "and my love papi, too.")

playtime with "livia"

last friday morning, we had our little olivia over to play. the kiddos chose to amuse themselves by jumping off the couch over and over, while gia and i avoided their flailing limbs. these pics were so much fun to take and turned out great. the big surprise of the morning was luca actually calling her "livia." (she has been known as "audie" in our house since luca was 18 months old.)

our little sweetharts party

slowly but surely, i will add the updates from our texas trip. here are some videos of the joint birthday party we threw down there for gia and sofia (her cousin).

here's what i did today

lock my keys in my car.

yeah, and luca and gia were in there too. kinda freaky. and hilarious. and thankfully not 100 degrees or 0 degrees outside.

so the story goes, we pulled up to grace church for thursday morning open gym play time (yeah, get some energy out during the cold months plus great chatting time with others moms). i hit the button to unlock the doors (or so i thought), set the keys in my purse (which is sitting in the seat next to me), got out of the car (leaving the purse on the seat), shut my door, and walked around to luca's door and tried to open it. it was locked. funny, considering i just unlocked it. so, i walked over to gia's door and it was locked. still kind of confused. so i tried to open my door. . . locked. went back around to the passenger front door, cause maybe by some fluke it was not locked. . . no such luck, locked. just then another mom pulls up and i turn around and say,

"i just locked my children in the car."

totally and completely confused. she kind of laughs and grimaces at the same time. we just stand there a few moments and then i say , "i need to get them out." master of the obvious, i am. i kind of come to from my shock and decide to call jesse at work to rescue us. thankfully amanda had a phone since mine is locked in the car. within ten minutes jesse arrived with the extra set of keys - our knight in charcoal gray wool.

bye bye green world, hello gray

well, we have safely arrived back in illinois after our 2 and a half week excursion. we flew out of sunny texas on thursday morning, arrived at my parents on thursday evening, and drove down to normal on friday morning. we are slowly un packing and getting settled. i would love to fill you all in our trip and post a ton of pics, but as i am sick with some weird flu-cold thing, it may be a few more days, but we'll see. we had a fabulous time with our family down there and enjoyed a break from the snow and bitter cold. one of my first observations leaving o'hare was how much grayer illinois looked than houston. regardless, we love our home state. happy new year to all!
