goodbye snoring princess

remember this post from last february? it all makes sense now. since that time, gia has become our snoring princess. i might just sneak in her room tonight to listen for a final time.

in just eight hours, my baby girl will be at the hospital with a plastic bracelet circling her wrist, wearing a child-sized well-washed gown, and in blissful ignorance of what is to come in the coming half hour. there is only so much explaining to be given a toddler busy coloring, singing, and taking care of her dolls.

in case you hadn't heard, the gia bee has ginormous tonsils and will be having them removed (along with her adenoids) tomorrow morning. enlarged tonsils are a cause for sleep apnea, which she has not officially been diagnosed with, but does show many of the symptoms. according to our ent, it is very difficult to diagnose sleep apnea in children - experts disagree on the criteria to use. basically, the tonsils, which are large while awake, relax and grow larger while sleeping. when gia is entering deep sleep, they close off her airway and she has to wake up and clench the muscle in order to breathe. not only is it dangerous and scary, but her quality of life is severely effected due to lack of good rest.

just last month, at her two-year-old well visit, the pediatrician referred gia to an ent for a consult on the tonsils. the last four weeks have been a whirlwind of appointments, planning and preparation for this surgery. while i am relieved she will be treated, it is hard not to become anxious at the idea of my baby being under general anesthesia for an hour.

the biggest concern, especially at this age, is post-op dehydration. we will be diligent and careful this weekend to avoid that. the lucamon is staying with cece and grandpa cashew until sunday. jesse is driving back now from the burbs after dropping the boy off. he was bouncing off the walls with excitement - his first solo trip to the grandparents. i was told he has already given his uncle christian a tutorial on how to play the leapster. :)

oh and one bonus about the timing - an excellent reason to have a few shamrock shakes this weekend.

please pray for us tomorrow! that it won't be too scary for the girl. that there will not be any complications and we will indeed be able to come home tomorrow afternoon. also that she will easily accept liquids to avoid dehydration. jesse and i will need comfort and peace as we wait for the almost two hours in the waiting room.

the above photo is gia's tired out face after a marathon of pre-op appointments on tuesday. notice the sweet flaco lovin' on his girl. (for that cat, it was love at first sight when we brought her home as a newborn.)

gia speak

gia is talking up a storm - a crazy adorable chatterbox. our little comedienne is making us laugh all the time. (she seriously loves to entertain us.) let us share a bit of her cuteness.

everyday, morning to night, she sings, "happy birthday to you, (insert name of person or object, such as mama, blankie, dinosaur, carrotstick, etc.)

when waking from a nap, she hides her face under a blankie complaining "it's too bright"

she was sitting quietly in the cart today at sams for the first 20 minutes. then all of a sudden, she called out, "papi, i like those!" and pointed to saltines. after seeing elmo cupcakes at the bakery she exclaimed "my upcakes!" then she told a man passing in the aisle, "you eat this" and tried to hand him her snack. in the car on the way home, she explained, "my now sing "ahhh" and then sweetly sang "ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" for the next few minutes.

barefoot with a headache

this weekend was the annual women's overnighter for our church. the theme was provocative fashion: if the devil wears prada, i don't mind going barefoot. we examined the idea that we can be trendsetters for God, establishing and popularizing Christ.

what does it look like to go barefoot?

it was really an amazing time and was so neat to see so many ladies use their God given gifts, abilities, and time to serve the others in our community. thanks to all who helped pull it off.

the bummer was that i was in the throes of headache misery throughout. i have had a headache every day for the last 9 days - the last 4 of them getting progressively worse. imitrex has saved me from being totally incapacitated, but even then i was wiped out for the entire afternoon today. i am so ready for these to be over. there are several triggers for these headaches to create a "perfect storm" of circumstances. i hope it is all coming to an end so i can focus on life more fully.

in other news, i have been very absent from the blogging world since coming back from honduras. a little due to being out of the habit, mostly though because we have been sooooooooo busy. i mean, we had a full schedule for the month of february and then several unexpected snafus were thrown in to jazz it up. we had a broken water heater for almost a week - yay! the biggest news though is that gia is slotted for a major surgery this coming friday (2/27) and we have had a lot of preparations to make. she will be having her tonsils and adenoids removed. i will post in more detail later.

love you all, annalea

and i'm back

and have been for three weeks!

i apologize for the long delay on returning to blogland. i am still playing catch-up from honduras, christmas, and gia's birthday. add to that a renewed commitment for getting to the gym regularly, taking on some larger ministry roles at church for the next month and scheduling a bunch of doctor and dentist appointments (i always seem to fall behind in that area as winter sets in). let's just say my standards for cleanliness around the house have been lowered for the immediate future.

but i long to share all of the stories and photos from my amazing trip. it was truly a beautiful and life-changing time.
