we're alive. in case you were wondering. (yes the tornado sirens went off the night we moved in but all is well)
didn't get internet hooked up at the new place until last friday, but the connection has been super slow with all of the bad weather out here. also our wireless connection is undergoing some work for a couple more days. so instead of standing at the kitchen counter for hours waiting for things to connect i have been avoiding the computer.
major fibro flare-up for me as well as deaing with a three year old's mood swings (this second move seems to have really thrown luca for a loop). gia is having some weird stuff going on so we are taking her to the doctor today or tomorrow. floors are still not installed upstairs - definitely a story in that. but overall, we are loving the house and our welcome to the neighborhood has been great. cookies, potted plants, and a huge basket o goodies (including the most amazing orange scones ever) plus lots of visits from friends and meeting new people. there is a family with two boys (ages 5 and 2) two doors down and across the street a baby girl just 8 months younger than gia. yeah!
the best laid plans. . .
. . . of mice and men often go awry. or in this case of floors and moving.
so when i posted yesterday that the floors were being picked up and beginning their 24 hour acclimation period, that was after 1)calling home depot and being told they had arrived, 2)saying good-bye to jesse as he left to pick up our friend fred's truck for the transport of said floors, and 3)believing that these two facts equaled my assumption. wrong. jesse and my dad spent an aggravating hour or so at the store last night while the very nice customer service people searched for our pallet o' hardwood to no avail. "we'll look for it again in the morning when other flooring people are in," they assured us. well, this morning was even more frustrating as the truth of the matter has unraveled further. although the store signed for our order yesterday, they can not find it. most likely, it never got off the truck. well, not true. 5 boxes of our 42 are there.
our only option right now is to wait and see if they arrive on friday's truck. so much for getting them done by saturday. moving day is now up in air. i am maintaining an attitude of thankfulness and peace (with mucho help from the holy spirit). i'll keep you posted.

the carpet dance
leave it to my dad to come up with alter egos for himself, his grandson and his son-in-law while ripping up the carpet this afternoon. oh, wait, i don't want to forget the imaginary guy joey bag o' donuts who is on perpetual break outside. "sammy" was luca's nickname for the day and he played the part wholeheartedly. from the first, "let's throw these babies (carpet pieces) out the window!" luca was hooked. the dumpster in the driveway became the "stroller" and luca was chucking "babies" out it every chance he got. they also came up with a carpet dance as seen in the above video.
the floors are nearly prepped. all the carpet is out. most of the baseboard is pulled up. the guys (minus little sammy) are over there pulling up tack strips and staples. the floors have been picked up (or so i believe) and hopedully have begun the 24 hour acclimation floor prep.
oh and can i express in words how badly i want to be sleeping there tonight? even if on osb sub-flooring.
not so little house on the prairie
hey y'all! closing was this morning and all went well. this beautiful prairie-style bungalow is our new home finally!
stories to come. photos found on picasa. click here or find link at left for all of our albums.
(a lot of photos of the rooms empty - to be used in before and after comparisons. so far half the carpet upstairs has been removed. jesse, my dad, and luca make a good team.)
tomorrow
if i was writing this 35 minutes from now i could say today, but regardless we will be signing the papers to officially purchase our new home in under ten hours. we had the final walk-through this afternoon and it was so hard to leave. it felt like our place already. the only hitch is that one of the ac units was not working (there is one for the first and second floors so this was the older one servicing the first floor). we haven't had any ac weather yet this year, so we are positive it was an oversight on the seller's part. it should all get worked out tomorrow morning. we begin demo on the carpet upstairs tomorrow afternoon and will work through the week (with the help of my dad). final moving day - saturday!
since i finally found the camera battery (you may have guessed by the photos posted yesterday) - it was rolled up inside the dipaer changing pad in the diaper bag, guess we haven't had much use of it for two weeks :) - i will be sure to post tons of photos starting tomorrow night, however, i think my posting will continue to be sporadic with all of the hustle and bustle.
love you all and good night!
