enzo's tiny party

tiny birthday bunting

when we made the decision to keep our celebration for enzo's first birthday small, we kept calling it "his tiny party".  after a couple days, i realized that i could easily incorporate this title into a simple and sweet theme.  a tiny party is not original (see martha's ideas here) and i have seen some others' takes on it around the blogosphere.  this works well for a first birthday, considering it signifies the end of babyhood and the start of things not-as-tiny.

tiny birthday boy

here is our tiniest little with his tiny birthday hat.  i made one for each of us.  and how about that tiny bow tie?  found it the day before while sorting through a year's worth of outgrown tiny clothes (but that is a story for another day).

goo blocks

these blocks were a present from luca and gia.  very simple and thoughtful, plus super easy decor for our little party.

with mama and papi

tiny harts

i hung a flat sheet over the fireplace (just draped it over the mantle and stacked cookbooks on top) for a quick photo shoot.  (and it could have been ironed, but this is way more authentic.)  jesse looked half asleep in every shot.  but i think he has been half asleep for the last few months.  that guy works so hard!  one reason a tiny party was necessary.  and i am amazed i got this photo of the three kiddos.  it is very true to their personalities.

tiny balloons

i bought a pack of water balloons from target's dollar bins over the summer.  they worked great for tiny balloon bouquets.  the color scheme for the party came from these.  i loved the vintage-y muted colors and pretty sheen.

tiny cakes

these tiny lemon bundt cakes were amazing.  we also had mini marshmallows, mini m&m's and shrinkberries (aka blueberries).  luca has a plan to invent a blueberry with shrinking powers so he and enzo never grow up.  he has been talking about it for months.  i thought it was a sweet little nod to his great imagination and very fitting for a tiny party.

tiny birthday cake

and here is the tiny smash cake complete with tiny birthday bunting and tiny candle.  i also made a tiny dot garland with scrap paper (kinda like this one).  fast and reusable.  it was draped on a second flat sheet hung over the buffet mirror.  flat sheets make great party decor.  i also used a third one for a table cloth.

with grandpa, cece, and uncles

with grandpa and uncles

my parents and brothers were able to join us for the afternoon.  and they even humored me by wearing the tiny party hats.  my brother cameron is the man of a thousand faces.  he is the biggest ham ever.  there were probably 20 photos like these.  enzo was just confused.

happy birthday dear enzo

i LOVE this photo. L.O.V.E.

happy papi

and this one too.  he looks so happy (and not half asleep).

tiny fingers

watching enzo eat the cake was my favorite part.  he couldn't understand why we plopped this (not-so-tiny) thing in front of him.  after giving him a little taste from my finger, he tentatively picked at the frosting for a bit.  and then all of a sudden he just stuck his whole face in the cake!  it was awesome.  he sat and gnawed at it until realizing fistfuls were more efficient.  too cute.

let him eat (tiny) cake

their was frosting in every tiny nook and cranny on his tiny head.

for those interested i made a lemon cake (doctored box mix) with blueberry preserves filling and homemade chocolate frosting.  this combination is my most requested for weddings and parties.

tiny mugs

i didn't get many photos of our brunch from earlier in the afternoon.  we served stacks of silver dollar pancakes with sausage and mini quiche (store bought).  we drank out of these cute tiny mugs.  nothing complicated but all very yummy.

i loved the chance to focus on our tiny guy rather than cleaning the house and making lunch for lots of guests.  in general, i love having giant groups of people over to share and celebrate with.  jesse and i both come from big families and we have great friends (our other family).  but with all of the health issues i have been having, the adjustment to and new workload of homeschooling, recovery from our texas trip and the flu, and the general fatigue from raising three young kiddos made this a must.  i am glad that with all of that, this day was special and full of sweet memories.

the tiny party was an enormous hit.

i think he liked it

happy birthday enzo!

what a day.  our baby goo turned one.  we had a tiny party and i will tell y'all about it tomorrow.

(how funny are our matching smiles?  we both make this face all the time and i love that we have it captured on this special day.)

hello dear friends and family! i am hoping to get back to your regularly scheduled programming this week. kind of like that fourth definition above, i am reentering our atmosphere after a couple weeks spent in another world. a world full of getting acquainted with a tiny, fragile, and dependent human, surviving on little and disrupted sleep, recovering from pregnancy, labor and delivery, introducing new routines to our household, and learning a new type of stillness. we are finding a new rhythm to life and i would love to share it with all of you. xoxo

hello world

my name is lorenzo david jacinto hart,
but you can call me enzo.

on saturday, november 21st at 8:28pm, i arrived weighing 7lb 15.9oz and measuring 19 inches. my hair is dark blonde and i have grey-blue eyes.

i really like to cuddle and sleep and i am told i am a super chill baby. that's me. i am just cool like that. when i am awake, i have a very quiet and serious observance of my surroundings. my cry sounds like a little mouse squeak and i have chicken legs.

my mama "might" have more to say about me later. so i'll just end this post here and leave it to her.
hope to meet you soon!

the cashew is here

at 8:28 pm, our boy finally made his out of utero debut.

mama and baby are healthy. more detail to come.

and the wait begins. . .

as if we haven't been waiting up 'til now. :)

here is a peek of our morning so far.

we'll keep you updated.

24 hour distraction

once again. . ., originally uploaded by annaleahart.

thanks everyone who voted for our room! we didn't make the top 3 vote getters, but are pretty much okay with that. :)

hey friends, family, and unknown, but welcome strangers!

once again, we need your votes.

our nursery is one of the finalists in ohdeedoh's "small kids, big color 2009 contest." yay! for only the next 24 hours, voting is open. the winners will be announced tomorrow afternoon.

thank you so much for helping us make it to this point. every vote made a difference in the first round and that again is true now.

please visit the post here and give us (baby cashew's mix & match nursery) a big thumbs up. we will love you forever. i guess that is true even if you don't vote, but it would be awfully nice of you. :)

needing this 24 hour distraction,
love,
annalea

how about saturday?

we went to see the midwife today - never thought we would need this appointment at 40.5 weeks. it was possibly our most action packed time at the office - starting with luca's mega-fit in the waiting room, which turned into a punching, scratching, and screaming match while the nurse was checking my weight and blood pressure. fun stuff.

baby boy sounded good, but it seems like he might have decided to plump up this week. according to this midwife (we see a practice of 6 and rotate between them for appointments), the little guy might weigh in bigger than gia's 8lb 9oz. yikes! almost this entire pregnancy we have been told that we were looking at the smallest of our babies. time will tell.

and that time is coming sooner than expected. while at the office, our induction for monday was unable to scheduled. seems like labor and delivery is packed full at the beginning of next week (pre-thanksgiving babies galore). so we were asked, "how about saturday?" as much as i am praying fervently that i can go into natural labor before an induction, i responded, "great."

so, in less than 72 hours we should be meeting our cashew!!!!

the tenth month

guess what?

no, not that. that is not the cashew. just remembering what a sweet newborn face looks like. lucciano, march 2005

just letting you know that we are patiently waiting for this boy. last week was pretty ridiculous. contractions all the time and constant exhaustion. but thursday night they started to subside. upside being i was able to catch up on much needed rest. downside being labor not happening.

this morning i woke up feeling so much better. best night sleep i have had in two weeks. my attitude for this week is much improved as well. i am having fun as a mama, working on christmas gifts, and keeping the house somewhat clean.

on friday, we discussed the possibility of induction with the midwife. the plan is to wait until this coming friday when i am just about 41 weeks. at that time, i will have a nonstress test. for about an hour, i will be hooked up to a monitor checking the baby's resting and active heart rates. i will also have a sonogram to check his movements, the placenta and amniotic fluid levels. depending on what these show, they will either decide to induce then or wait until monday. meaning i have at most one week remaining in this pregnancy. after 40+ weeks, i think i can handle that.

looking forward to seeing this again soon.

we made it

our due date is here! too bad that doesn't mean much to this little boy. he is still not ready, regardless if we are. :)

in case you were wondering

we are still here - at home - with no baby born. around 5pm yesterday, the contractions started coming regularly again (the third time since thursday night). they were averaging 4 minutes apart by 10pm, getting progressively stronger, but then they tapered off around 3:30am. a long night, to say the least. my body is pretty exhausted from these last few nights. i know it is all doing something though and i keep praying it makes the labor at the hospital more efficient.

the strength of the contractions is increasing again this morning and i am still hoping to make our way over there today. pray for us. we need it.

we'll let you know when the cashew arrives. xoxo

soon

soon a tiny (and most likely hairy) head will fill this hat. soon may be tonight or soon may be several days from now. my contractions started last night about 10-15 minutes apart and have been increasing in strength and frequency since then. the baby has dropped - the bonus being i can now breathe easily and walking across a room doesn't leave me wheezing. we have prepared the kids to not expect us in the morning. :)

i sewed the hat this afternoon. something i have been hoping to make for sometime. just needed the proper motivation i guess. i love it. look for it in our coming home from the hospital photos. ;)

vote for us!

our nursery was selected for ohdeedoh's "small kids, big color" contest! please check out our entry now and give us a thumbs up. (voting is only active for the next 48 hours)

being silly, staying busy

for some reason, i have convinced myself that this boy will be born today. don't ask me why. well, you could and i would tell you that everything is set up for me to be comfortably gone from my home for a few days without worry - an organized and fairly tidy house, laundry caught up, day of rest yesterday and a great family weekend behind me, no projects pressing to be finished. luca and gia are healthy. i think 11.2.09 is a nice birthdate (makes my mathematical side smile). i am showered. my hair looks nice. the camera battery is fully charged. the champagne is bought. the bag is packed.

if the day ends and no baby has come, i will just have to take a deep breath and get ready for the next 11 or so days of waiting. but today will be hard. i am a bit stir crazy.

so i am taking that pile of things that have collected in my craft closet needing to be mended and i will become a stuffed animal doctor, a restorer of books, an amateur cobbler, and a seamstress for ripped pants knees, fallen hems, and a wounded dragon's tail. just trying to stay busy. maybe while eating halloween candy.

ready and waiting

it is finished. after much hard (but super fun) work, we have officially finished the nursery! it is the most complete room in the entire house. funny how that works. maybe something to do with the whole deadline of a due date. now we just need a little cashew to fill the space. until then, luca, gia, and i will spend time building block towers on the rug and reading books on the daybed.

the above images are thanks to our friend darren, who generously offered his time to help with the photo shoot. (and he brought some awesome equipment for super cool quality!)

tired fingers, happy hart

the preparations for our little cashew are coming to an end. we are putting the final touches on his nursery. here is a look at the last major project i completed yesterday. hours upon hours of stitching were spent sunday to create embroidered art and i enjoyed every minute. i am pretty much loving it. i can imagine being propped by pillows on the daybed staring up at this wall while nursing, luca and gia playing on the rug below. just 26 days until our due date. . .
