me: what kind of birthday party do you want luca?

luca: a monkey party

me: ?????

luca: yea, a monkey party.  maybe monkeys on snowboards.  or on harley davidsons.  maybe a monkey knight.  or maybe a cowboy monkey party.

me: ?????

luca:  i want to have a monkey party.  with lots of colors.  not just green and brown and yellow.

me:  ooookay.  are you sure?

luca:  yep.

i wish i could say that i was an awesome and accepting mama and didn't try to sway him to other ideas.   i couldn't 1) see him still liking the idea of monkey party a month later and 2) think of clever and cute ideas for that theme off the top of my head.  but here we are, just days before the party, and luca 1) still really wants a monkey party and 2) forced me to be creative and find a way to make monkeys cool..

although i had already coordinated the time and day with the other mamas over e-mail, the idea of an invitation was still bouncing around my head.  this is what we baked up.

i found the monkey art at vintage printable.  and we used this recipe because banana bread is a monkey's fave.

i love parties.  and i looooooove kid parties. but sometimes you just can't put a ton of time into the planning and need to just pull things together at the last minute.  and that is okay.  so i can take all the dreams and ideas and condense them into what is doable in the time allowed.  tomorrow will be our "get ready for the party" day.  making cake and decorations, prepping lunch and games, and wrapping up favors.  so fun!

That is awesome...kids are so creative! My girl wants a tea party with mermaids and Laura Ingalls for her 7th. Not sure how to mesh a prairie girl with a mermaid!

Have fun monkeying around! Kim
